Trade without tariffs
WE HAVE enjoyed tariff-free trade with the EU since we joined the EEC 45 years ago. There is no practical reason why this should not continue after Brexit.
In fact, we have a trading deficit with 23 out of the 27 EU countries, so it is in their interests these trading arrangements should continue. When we leave the EU, we will be free to set our own rates, and if M. Barnier continues to be obdurate, we should threaten to double the rate on goods imported from those countries with which we have the largest trade deficit.
