Ditch plastic garden pots says Monty Don
MONTY DON is calling on gardeners to do away with plastic in their flower beds – describing its effects as an ‘environmental disaster’.
The Gardeners’ World presenter will urge BBC viewers to chuck out their plastic pots, seed trays and compost bags.
Although these are convenient and cheap, he says we should swap them for green alternatives.
Don promised to cut back on plastic products in his own garden and called on other gardeners to do the same, saying: ‘Plastic may have made our lives more convenient but it is an environmental disaster.
‘[It] takes hundreds of years to biodegrade. Every time we use and discard any item of plastic we are adding to the plastic mountain.
‘I would suggest that the overwhelming goal for the next 50 years for gardeners around the world is to reduce and if possible stop all use of plastic.’
