Make water firms pay

MILLIONS have been told this week to ration water after burst pipes cut off supplies to homes in London and the South (Mail).

I have a solution to the water companies’ failure to invest in infrastructure: charge them for every litre of water lost through leakages at the rate they charge customers.

This should be deducted from dividends. That would certainly encourage greater efficiency. MIKE LAWRENCE, Ipswich, Suffolk.
