Now Channel 4 is staying in London

-

CHANNEL 4 is set to move 300 of its 800 staff out of London – but will keep its headquarters in the capital.

The broadcaster will establish a new base where ‘creative decision makers who are spending money will be located’, its chief executive Alex Mahon said.

Alongside the new centre, two new smaller hubs – also away from its Victoria HQ – will be established next year.

Channel 4 will also boost spending by more than £250million on regional productions – from 35 per cent to 50 per cent of main commissions by 2023.

From next month, UK cities can bid to house the new hubs. Channel 4 News will also boast three new regional bureaux by 2020. Last year, then Culture Secretary Karen Bradley said that the channel should have a ‘major presence’ outside London, but the broadcaster had claimed that a move outside the capital would be ‘highly damaging’.
