Now a tattoo parlour is coming to Corrie’s cobbles

- By Laura Lambert TV and Radio Reporter

FOR loyal fans of Coronation Street, news that Costa and Co-op were coming to the cobbles was quite enough to take on.

But they will soon have to adapt to even more upheaval of the traditional set – as Weatherfield is getting a tattoo parlour and a tram stop.

The ‘retail area’ of the newly-unveiled Victoria Street, which took three years to build, marks a dramatic shift for a set that had barely changed in 57 years. Storylines on the ITV soap are expected to make use of the Weatherfield North tram stop, the new ‘Tattoo’ll Do Nicely’ parlour, and a snooker hall next door.

From May, viewers will see a new police station, modern shops and a memorial bench to commemorate the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing, with a special mention for Martyn Hett – a Corrie fan killed in the blast.

And while bosses insist staples such as Dev’s corner shop will still be key features – and the newly-unveiled street will have the trademark cobbles – business at the Rovers Return might be hit by the arrival of a new bar. Kate Oates, series producer, said: ‘The extension represents an exciting chapter in Corrie history … our talented design team have created everything from scratch – but it still manages to have the feeling of always having been there, just around the corner.’

Although some of the new shops will only be viewed from the outside, the police station will have a reception, cells, corridors and interview rooms, ITV said.
