Bird-brained

-

IT’S wrong to blame peregrine falcons for the decline in songbirds (Letters) — cats are the main predators of small birds.

Raptors are under threat thanks to people taking pleasure in shooting, trapping or poisoning them just for the hell of it.

CHRIS DAVIES, Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancs.

AS A retired gamekeeper, I agree the RSPB is in love with predators. We had hundreds of songbirds on the estate where I worked for 25 years because we knew the importance of vermin control.

I asked a local warden why there were so many crows and magpies in his reserve, and the answer was nature sorts itself out. Rubbish!

MARGY EDWARDS, Knodishall, Suffolk.
