Gap-toothed grin that says: I was Meghan’s first boyfriend (sorry Harry!)
IN less than two months, millions around the world will watch as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry share a kiss that seals their wedding vows amid the pomp and splendour of Windsor Castle.
Miss Markle’s first kiss, however, took place in the rather more modest surroundings of a summer camp when she was 13.
It has emerged that Miss Markle shared her first romance with a schoolboy called Joshua Silverstein – now a famous rapper in the United States.
In a little-known interview with US chat show host Larry King in 2013, the former Suits actress said she had ‘no idea’ what had become of him.
But Silverstein is now considered one of the world’s most talented beatboxers and has also carved out a career as an actor and comedian. He has previously appeared on the Late, Late Show which is presented by James Corden.
Asked about her first kiss, Miss Markle, 36, told King: ‘Joshua Silverstein. I was 13, it was a summer camp and I kissed him.’
Now a married father of two, LA-based Silverstein said of their teenage romance: ‘We were together every day, we spoke on the phone a lot, we held hands and shared kisses. Meghan and I are the same age so, I know I was about 13 or 14. I obviously don’t remember “the kiss” – but I do know that I was the first guy she kissed.’
Silverstein told MailOnline the romance began when he and the teenage Meghan attended a theatre summer camp arranged by their local Agape Spiritual Church in Santa Monica, California.
Already burnishing her credentials as a budding actress, Miss Markle ‘stole the show’ in the big performance, Silverstein said. He added: ‘I remember her character was very awkward, a dorky character, her hair was up, people thought we were funny and talented. We all got up and did a solo, then had one big dance number.’
After their summer of love, the romance slowly fizzled out, but they continued seeing each other on Sundays at church and he remained in touch with her mother, Doria.
Silverstein says he was ‘excited’ when he found out she was dating Harry, adding: ‘To be a person to grow up in LA, no ties with the Royal Family, or anything across the pond, to marry into it, that’s exciting. I’m happy for her.
‘She’s very smart, got a good head on her shoulders, can handle herself, so she’s going to have a fun ride. I’m very happy to hear that it seems like all her dreams are coming true. It’s nice to know that someone from my past is doing so well.’
Before meeting Harry in 2016, Miss Markle was married to film producer Trevor Engel- son for two years. She will marry Harry on May 19 at Windsor Castle and police are preparing a show of strength around the town amid fears it could be the target of a London Bridge- style terror attack.
