Sub Messi launches stunning comeback

-

LIONEL MESSI came off the bench to orchestrate a dramatic two-goal fightback against Sevilla and preserve Barcelona’s unbeaten record in La Liga with a late leveller. A goal in each half from Franco Vazquez and Luis Muriel seemingly put Sevilla — who knocked Manchester United out of the Champions League — in control. Messi (right), who missed Argentina’s friendlies with Italy and Spain with muscle fatigue, gave Barca an instant lift when he replaced Ousmane Dembele on 58 minutes. Wasteful Sevilla should have extended their lead through Vazquez and Muriel, but Luis Suarez reduced the arrears with an acrobatic finish with two minutes to go. Messi then found space on the edge of the area and scored with a sensational left-foot strike seconds later to earn the runaway La Liga leaders a 2-2 draw at the Sanchez Pizjuan. Both sides play in the Champions League quarter-finals in midweek. Sevilla host Bayern Munich on Tuesday and Barcelona will hope Messi will be in similar form when they entertain Roma the next day.
