Holmes’s sweet home turns out to be a shed
IN HIS role as Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch makes short work of impenetrable conundrums. But the 41-year-old star is finding reality more challenging.
When last year he proposed erecting a 160 sq ft pavilion in the garden of his £2.7 million Hampstead Heath home, there were howls of unneighbourly protest, with one local suggesting that he should ‘go to B&Q, get a little pre-pack number and knock it up himself on a Sunday afternoon’.
Undaunted, Cumberbatch has now submitted a revised proposal for a ‘shed’ covering less than 15 per cent of the garden and rising barely above the height of the boundary wall.
Clad in a timber trellis, it will additionally have ‘living green walls and [a] green roof’.
Camden council planning officers have ‘positively welcomed’ the green roof, though local reaction is less enthusiastic.
‘It’s nice to have such a great actor living here, but he should re-think this scheme,’ says one.
