You could stay in this space hotel in just 4 years (but start saving … a 12-day trip will cost £7m!)

- By Richard Marsden

THERE is no pool, restaurant or bar, and going for a nice walk is certainly out of the question.

Oh, and a 12-day stay at this hotel will require special training and set you back an astonishing £6.8million.

But that is because of its unique location – in space.

Bookings are already being taken for the Aurora Station, which is due to be launched in late 2021 with the first guests arriving early the following year.

Measuring 43.5ft by 14.1ft, it will orbit the Earth every 90 minutes at a height of 200 miles, meaning the six people on board – four customers and two crew – can enjoy 16 sunrises and sunsets a day as they float in zero gravity.

The project has been unveiled in California by US-based space technology start-up Orion Span.

It said its venture is being organised by a ‘team of space industry veterans

‘Sixteen sunrises and sunsets every day’

who together have more than 140 years of human space experience’. Chief executive Frank Bunger said: ‘Our goal is to make space accessible to all.’

However, as well as footing a huge bill, guests must complete around three months of astronaut training.

Once in orbit, they will be able to take part in research experiments, such as growing food in space.

Orion Span is already taking a £60,000 deposit from anyone interested in visiting Aurora Station. This is refundable if guests cannot raise the full price.

Another US firm, Axiom Space, which plans to put a commercial space station into orbit by 2024, hopes to take tourists to the international space station next year, although details have not yet been revealed.

Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic aims to charge passengers £250,000 for a flight into space but its plans have been set back since a test rocket crashed in 2014, killing one of the pilots.
