Prue: Gambia is like a real-life Tinder... for geriatrics!

- By Isabella Fish

WHEN it comes to talking about the bedroom, Prue Leith is no prude.

The 78-year-old Great British Bake Off judge has been open about her active sex life with her ‘toyboy’ husband – aged 71.

But even she was stunned by the goings- on she saw while on holiday in Gambia, which she said was like a ‘Tinder dream for geriatrics’.

After visiting the West African country with husband John Playfair this year, she revealed they were shocked when they arrived to find singles ‘offering to be a “friend”’.

Writing in today’s Spectator magazine, she said: ‘It’s a kind of real-life Tinder dream for geriatrics.

‘The beach was full of elderly white European women happily strolling along hand in hand with beautiful young Gambian men.

‘And triumphant 70- something white men living the dream, cocktails or beer glass in hand, lounging about with glamorous black girls on the double beach beds.

‘If John or I walked alone on the beach, within seconds a charming if overeager “beach bumster” of the opposite sex would tag along, offering to be a “friend”.’

However, she added: ‘There were some geriatrics who, like us, hadn’t come in search of sex.

‘Many had been going to the country for years and loved it.

‘But those faithful returners mostly thought they wouldn’t be doing so for much longer.

‘Since British Airways stopped flying there, most of the tourists are on all-in holiday packages, and the hotels are going down market, attracting customers in search of the all-you-can-eat-threetimes-a-day deal.’

The television cookery presenter, pictured, has often spoken about dating, revealing last month that she often receives requests on Twitter, as well as other ‘strange’ messages.

Miss Leith has also made no secret of the colourful love life she enjoys with Mr Playfair. Last summer, she revealed how she and her husband were still very active in the bedroom.

And her fellow Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood has told how she used a dancer’s pole at a nightclub.

Unconventional from a young age, at 21 she began an affair with Rayne Kruger, the husband of her mum’s best friend. After a 13-year fling, they wed and stayed together until his death at 80 in 2002.
