ART IN THE MAKING Urban Myths, 9pm, Sky Arts

A NEW series of extraordin­ary tales from cultural history begins with the story of the growing discontent on the set of the 1959 comedy Some Like It Hot. Gemma Arterton is great as Marilyn Monroe (pictured), with James Purefoy as director Billy Wilder. The film itself follows at 9.30pm.

ESPIONAGE Deep State, 9pm, Fox

PART TWO of this taut spy thriller ramps up the suspense and tightens the plot strands as MI6 agent Max Easton (Mark Strong) struggles to rescue an asset — while a threat to his own family rises in the shadows. There’s not much action here, but, when it comes, it’s very well done.

FINANCIAL DRAMA Billions, 9pm, Sky Atlantic

EPISODE three moves away from the big plays and into the everyday details as the workers at Axe Capital become worried they’re going to be replaced by computers under tech whizz Taylor, who is probably the show’s most interestin­g character. Chuck, meanwhile, is concerned when his fears about his boss are confirmed.

FREEVIEW MOVIE A Bigger Splash, 9pm, Film4

LUCA GUADAGNINO followed up the sublime and sad I Am Love with this sun-drenched drama, also starring Tilda Swinton. She’s the rock star who cannot speak following surgery, seeking peace and tranquilli­ty on an idyllic Italian island. Enter a very loud and brash Ralph Fiennes as a former lover.

CRIME DRAMA Law And Order, 10pm, BBC4

G.F. NEWMAN, who went on to create Judge John Deed, is the writer behind a four-parter from 1978 that stars Derek Martin as a detective. It was hugely controvers­ial at the time for its depiction of the police as corrupt.
