Be smart about Syria

-

FOR heaven’s sake, why is Donald Trump tweeting about sending smart missiles to flatten Syria’s airfields? This can only make matters much worse and bring us to the brink of nuclear war with Russia.

Getting involved in another quagmire of conflict should be nothing to do with us.

As Simon Jenkins sensibly argued, it would probably be best for that region and the rest of the world to be unified under the Assad regime, as repellent as that would be (Mail). Don’t send the world up in flames in a macho vanity project for an American President unfit for high office. MARTYN CURTIS, Caversham, Berks. WHY blindly follow the flawed foreign policy of the u.S.? Have we learned nothing from the debacle of Iraq and libya, which were ruined by taking out the leaders who knew how to contain factions in those countries?

Since we ‘liberated’ Iraq, more than 380,000 people have died. lives of our young people were lost and many maimed, and all for nothing.

There must be no military action taken without the will of our people. A free vote in Parliament would be a start. ROGER C. BENNETT, Highbridge, Somerset. IF I OUR troops are sent to Syria, then t lawyers should go, too. When they come under fire and are in i danger of their lives, they can ask a lawyer if they can fight without the danger of being taken to court on some charge when they get home. MICHAEL ADAMS, Rugby, Warks. All countries who oppose the use of chemical weapons in Syria should tell Russia they’re no longer prepared to compete in the World Cup. Anything less means we care more about football than people’s lives. JAMES WIGNALL, Accrington, Lancs.
