It’s Billy Bragg at the Bank
FIREBRAND singer Billy Bragg has lectured grandees at the Bank of England on capitalism’s evils.
The socialist musician was invited to its imposing City headquarters in Threadneedle Street by chief economist Andy Haldane.
He said free markets faced a crisis, demanded more rights for workers and said profit-seeking should take a back seat.
He railed against quantitative easing and added: ‘We find ourselves in an unprecedented situation where interest rates are kept at near-zero and central banks are creating free money, little of which makes its way through to the real economy.’
