I just love a trundle with my trolley . . .

-

I know that there are those who shop For groceries online, And if you’re technominded, why, That’s absolutely fine. But me, I like a trolley I can Trundle round the store, It makes a change, a pleasure. An outing, not a chore. I pick ’n’ mix my veggies from The colourful display, Then pause and have a ponder on The offers of the day. Cruise along the fresh and chilled And fish straight off the boat, And really feel quite grateful for My hat and gloves and coat. Now, off to find the cat food, Although I have to say They’ll very likely take a sniff And then just walk away. So, please avert your eyes Because I feel ’twould make you groan To see me nip and get them some Fresh turkey on the bone. And, oh, the warm aroma of That freshly baking bread, Reminds me I need butter, Of the sort that you can spread. And now I’m in Temptation Lane, Just where I shouldn’t be, ’Cos gingerbread and carrot cakes Are beckoning to me. Safely in the final aisle I wonder what I’ve missed, I’d check it out, could I but find My handy little list. And anyway, I’d better stop! I’ve rather gone to town, On the bargains and the specials And the lovely stuff marked down. A chat while at the checkout And the trolley stowed away, A coffee in the cafe just to Help me on my way. ‘But it’s taken you all morning!’ I’m hearing you exclaim. Well, yes, it has, but there’s the thing — I’m awfully glad I came. I’m glad I met and mingled, Felt the camaraderie, Of other trolley-dolly Hands-on shoppers just like me! Tricia Sturgeon, Mundlesley, Norfolk.
