SO, WHO ARE SKY’S NEW RIVALS ELEVEN SPORTS?

-

ELEVEN SPORTS say they are a ‘global sports provider dedicated to delivering world-class international and domestic sports and lifestyle entertainment’. At the moment this includes football, ice hockey and basketball. They operate in Belgium, Poland, Luxembourg, Italy, the US, Singapore and Taiwan. WHO’S BEHIND THEM? Founded in 2015, Eleven are owned by Andrea Radrizzani, the Italian chairman of Leeds. They are run by Marc Watson, former chief executive of BT TV responsible for setting up BT Sport. CAN I WATCH THE CHANNEL? Not yet. Eleven have

not launched in the UK, but they could choose to broadcast their range of games via a channel, should they launch one, or exclusively on the internet. HOW MUCH IS IT LIKELY TO COST? Unknown as it stands — but Eleven boast of having 17million paying subscribers for some of their other rights, so expect an

addition to your current bill if you want to watch La Liga. matches. COULD THEY END UP BACK ON SKY? Eleven can sell on rights to individual games to the likes of Sky Sports and BT Sport — and they do that for other rights in the US — but it remains to be seen what their plans are in the UK.
