Wrecked in crash, £109k car left with meet and greet firm

- Daily Mail Reporter

A COUPLE returned from a holiday to find their £109,000 Range Rover ‘smashed to smithereens’ after leaving it with an airport meet and greet firm.

Mike Savage and wife Maureen left their vehicle with Meet and Greet Manchester Airport Parking before jetting off to Majorca on Friday, April 13.

On the day the couple, both 64, were due to fly back to Manchester, Mr Savage received a text from the firm informing him his car had been involved in a crash.

They returned to find it badly damaged at the front and rear and fear it will have to be written off.

Bosses at the meet and greet firm, which is not affiliated with Manchester Airports Group, confirmed the Range Rover had been involved in a crash with two buses on the M60 on April 13.

Mr Savage, from Glossop, Derbyshire, believes his vehicle must have been driven at speed to have ended up so badly damaged. The firm, which charged £38 for the service, denies this is the case.

‘We got back to their compound in Stockport and there it was, all smashed up,’ said Mr Savage. ‘I know accidents happen but you don’t expect to come back and find your car smashed to smithereens. It was badly damaged at the front and the back. That can only have happened if it was being driven at speed.’

He claimed to have rung the company’s insurers, who said they had not even been notified about the crash. Mr Savage said he had not received an apology from the parking firm. ‘It’s not what you expect from a reputable business,’ he said. ‘It’s been a shambles.’

A spokesman for Meet and Greet Manchester Airport Parking said the firm had been in regular contact with Mr Savage, adding: ‘While taking his vehicle to our compound, his vehicle had a collision with the two buses, which the driver claims was not his fault. We sent an email to our insurers on April 14, which entailed the driver’s name and details, his statement of events, along with the details of both of the bus drivers involved in the incident.

The spokesman said the company provided Mr Savage with all the information he required.

The incident was revealed just days after the same firm apologised for leaving bin bags full of rubbish in a customer’s van. The mother, who asked to be named only as Jan, said it included drivers’ names and details.
