Shell boss fac­ing re­volt over pay

THE boss of oil gi­ant Shell is fac­ing the threat of a re­volt over his £7.8m pay packet.

In­sti­tu­tional Share­hold­ers Ser­vices, a lead­ing in­vestor ad­vi­sory group, is rec­om­mend­ing that Ben van Beur­den’s pay is voted down at the an­nual gen­eral meet­ing later this month.

ISS said it also wants more in­for­ma­tion about how the 60-year-old’s bonus was af­fected by an in­ci­dent in Pak­istan in 2016, when a fuel tanker op­er­ated by a Shell Pak­istan con­trac­tor ex­ploded, killing more than 200 peo­ple.

Shell said that it dis­agreed with sev­eral of ISS’s con­cerns.

the trial of Shell and Eni ex­ec­u­tives over al­leged cor­rup­tion dur­ing a deal to buy an oilfield in nige­ria is due to start in Italy to­day.
