Yates looks real deal as he leaves Froome behind

Daily Mail - - Cricket -

SIMON YATES goes from strength to strength at the Giro d’Italia while fellow Brit Chris Froome appears to be going in the opposite direction. Yates stormed clear in the final kilometre to take stage nine and now leads by 32 seconds from Mitchelton-Scott team-mate Esteban Chaves, with last year’s winner Tom Dumoulin of Holland six seconds adrift of the Colombian. Froome could not keep pace with the Yates group on the summit finish at Gran Sasso d’Italia and slipped to 11th, 2min 27sec down. But his Team Sky chief Nicolas Portal said: ‘It’s not perfect, but they will keep fighting, and they won’t give up.’
