The son of a Sicilian tailor, Mr Rubino moved to Rome more than 50 years ago, when he was 13, to perfect his skills in the city’s leading workshops, before opening his own.
‘I owe everything to my father. I was just a child, but I was already enchanted by his ability to get a simple piece of cloth and give it such a perfect shape,’ he says.
Today, his creations made on Via Frattina are enjoyed by actors and politicians, to name a few.
The ad’s authentic depiction is a celebration of the personalised experience this skilled Roman craftsman offers — and echoes Staysure’s own distinctly bespoke approach.
Making the ad wasn’t all smooth sailing, however. Unpredictable traffic and dull, cold, February weather all had to be overcome in historic Via Giulia (pictured top right), where giant lights were set up to simulate sunlight.
And although the original intention was to film at Mr Rubino’s workshop, space meant the crew had to relocate to the grand Villa Vitetti manor house, where a tailor’s room was recreated in the library. Many of the shots were unchoreographed, as the tailors carried out their trade, ensuring naturalness and authenticity — and demonstrating their high standards, which depend on doing things right.
