Climber dies in 8th Everest bid
A JAPANESE climber died yesterday while climbing Mount Everest – after losing nine fingertips to frostbite in one of seven previous failed attempts.
Nobukazu Kuriki is the second person to die on the 29,035ft mountain in this climbing season, which began in March, after Macedonian Gjeorgi Petkov, 63, lost his life at the weekend.
Mr Kuriki, 36, was found dead in his tent at Camp Two at 24,278ft.
In 2012, he had to have his fingertips amputated after two days at –20C in a snow hole on the mountain at 27,000ft.
