I have enjoyed reading about people mangling their words (Peterborough). I have two amusing examples of my own. The first is from my late mum. Upon hearing the news that a well-known criminal was being considered for an early release from prison, she said: ‘That’s very wrong; she should never be let out on patrol!’ I’m afraid the second one is against myself. after a fall, I had X-rays that showed I had a fractured humerus — the bone in the upper arm. after leaving hospital complete with collar and cuff, I met an acquaintance who inquired what I’d done. I replied: ‘I’ve fractured my uterus.’ I haven’t lived it down to this day. Mrs Diana Hill, Prenton, Wirral.
