Dear John’s gone

I Was dismayed to read about the appalling behaviour of the speaker of the house of Commons.

I knew a very different John bercow in the late nineties. he couldn’t have been more courteous, helpful or generous with his time. he made superb speeches against the eu,

during which he would quote the Maastricht Treaty from memory. I admired him as a solid Conservative MP who believed in his country and its independence.

Therefore, to see what he has become, a blustering mouthpiece for Leftist politics who is openly contemptuous of Brexit, is disappointing. It goes to show how corrosive politics and power can be. STUART GULLEFORD,
