FIRST of David Lean’s two classic Dickens adaptations (Oliver Twist followed in 1948), starring John Mills and Valerie Hobson as the grown-up Pip and Estella, with Martita Hunt as the tragic Miss Havisham. There have been many screen versions, but none holds a candle to this.

Inglourious, 10pm, Ch5

A GLORIOUSLY skewed alternative history of World War II from Quentin Tarantino. With a starry cast including Eli Roth, Michael Fassbender and Diane Kruger (pictured), Christoph Waltz is the muchfeared ‘Jew Hunter’, while Brad Pitt is his opposite number, the leader of a gung-ho band of Nazi-hunters on a mission behind enemy lines.
