Move over Anne... Harry and Meghan now take pride of place in the Queen’s quarters
ON A side table in the Queen’s audience room, pride of place used to go to a framed picture of Princess Anne and her husband.
But it seems there has now been a sudden change in the pecking order in the monarch’s Buckingham Palace inner sanctum. Centre stage on the table yesterday was a photo of Harry and Meghan.
The image – a never-before seen picture of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – replaces a photograph of Anne and her husband Timothy Laurence, which has been pushed to one side. Set in an elegant golden frame, the photo shows Harry in a blue suit and Meghan in a white mid-length dress, embracing tenderly following their wedding on May 19.
Only last month, during a meeting with the Prime Minister of India, the picture of Anne and her husband in naval uniform was in the same spot. The photo of the pair, who married in 1992, has now been moved to the other side of a table lamp and is only just visible. The change was spotted yesterday during the Queen’s audience with George Brandis, the Australian High Commissioner.
While the monarch regularly shifts the position of the photos in the room where she receives VIPs, the image of Anne has been in place for years. Other portraits in the room include ones of Zara and Mike Tindall on their wedding day and grandsons William and Harry in military uniform.
