Melbury armchair

- JENNY COAD

IS THAT A WINDSOR CHAIR? Yes, well, a modern Windsor chair. Made using traditional techniques but with a contemporary flair.

WHO CAME UP WITH THE DESIGN? Aptly named, Sitting Firm, a British chair-making company set up in 1989 by master craftsman Dave Green.

WHY THE NAME? Because it’s made from wood that hails from Melbury Wood in Dorset.

ANYTHING ELSE? They came up with the chair at an experimental six-day chair-making event called Bodging Milano held in Clissett Wood, Herefordshire.

THAT SOUNDS ALTERNATIVE: Yes, inspired by the great outdoors.

SO, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? £599, johnlewis.com. More styles are available at sittingfirm.co.uk.
