Banned, bra advert that is ‘offensive to women’

-

AN advert for a lingerie retailer has been banned after one complainant said it objectified women in a sexual manner.

The outdoor poster for a boutique called Silks featured a woman in underwear leaning forward to emphasise her bust, but only showed her body, not her face or head.

The ad, seen in December, was accompanied by the words ‘Tease the Season’. One person said it objectified women and was offensive.

Upholding the complaint, the Advertising Standards Authority’s (ASA) agreed the image invited people ‘to view her body as a sexual object’.

The ASA concluded it ‘ was likely to cause serious or widespread offence’. Glasgow-based Silks did not respond.
