TOURE IN TALKS TO JOIN THE HAMMERS

- By KIERAN GILL

WEST HAM have opened talks over a sensational move for Yaya Toure, who is very keen to play for Manuel Pellegrini again. The 35-year-old Manchester City legend is discussing terms. He was paid £220,000 a week by City and would have to accept a pay cut at the London Stadium, but West Ham are confident of getting the deal done. Under Pellegrini, Toure won the Premier League title with City in 2013-14 — scoring 20 goals that campaign — and collected two League Cups. The midfielder worked at Fulham’s training ground yesterday as he prepares for Sunday’s Soccer Aid match. Toure made waves earlier this week when he claimed City manager Pep Guardiola does not like picking African players. He said: ‘Pep did everything to spoil my last season. He was cruel with me. It got to the point where I asked myself if it was because of my colour.’ Toure made only one Premier League start last season, in City’s final home fixture against Brighton, and there is a sense he wants to prove he can still compete in the top flight with West Ham.
