KANE’S £90m DEAL
Spurs tie down England captain for six years
HARRY KANE has become one of the Premier League’s top earners after signing a six- year deal at Tottenham that could be worth as much as £90million.
Only a fortnight after announcing a five-year contract for manager Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has secured the services of his star striker. Deals for midfielders Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are expected to follow.
‘I’m really excited, it’s a proud day,’ said Kane. ‘I’m looking forward to the future, to the new stadium first and foremost and just to keep progressing as a club.’
In 2016, Kane agreed a £ 110,000- a- week contract that runs until 2022. But as Spurs
prepare to move into their new stadium, Levy realised that the England captain — who netted 41 goals for Spurs last season — needed to be on a par with the game’s big earners.
As revealed by MailOnline yesterday, Kane’s basic salary has nearly doubled to £200,000 a week with bonuses taking it close to £300,000 if the 24-year- old can score the goals that start to deliver silverware for Pochettino’s side.
It represents a huge coup for Tottenham, who need to keep their best players ahead of the move to their new ground.
It is also great timing for Kane only days before he leaves for Russia and this summer’s World Cup with England.
Kane added: ‘It’s been fantastic to consistently get in the Champions League, so I’m really excited to have another go at that and with the Premier League and FA Cup, we’ll look to go as far as we can. For us as a club, it’s just about keeping improving and we’ll work hard to do that.
‘ I’m obviously really excited about the World Cup coming up, so it’s nice to get this done before that and I’m just looking to go out there and enjoy it now.
‘It’s been a great season. Like always, the aim is to try to improve, so hopefully I can do that this summer and obviously next season as well.’
Earlier this week Kane expressed his delight at Pochettino signing a new deal. ‘It’s a big boost and I’m looking forward to starting next season,’ he said.
Now Kane has set his sights on following former Spurs star Gary Lineker by winning the golden boot at a World Cup. Lineker took the honour at Mexico ’86.
‘As a striker, it is a competition that you want to win,’ said Kane. ‘I would be lying if I said I didn’t. In the Premier League I have won it twice and come second twice. Hopefully this summer I can do something and get a World Cup one instead.’
Kane is yet to score at a major international tournament.
‘It’s something I want to change — hopefully this summer,’ he said. ‘ I’ve always felt you go through spells. The ball goes in, sometimes it doesn’t — like August every year for me!
‘That’s part of the game. But I always look at my game and see how I can get better, so that’s at big tournaments.
‘I want to score in tournament football and that’s what I will try to do.’
