Revolt over £270k deal for chief of Interserve

INTERSERVE has become the latest firm to suffer an investor revolt over pay.

More than 17pc of votes cast at the outsourcer’s annual general meeting were against executive pay packets for last year.

Advisory firm Glass Lewis had recommended a vote against chief executive Debbie White’s £525,897 pay packet for four months’ work amid questions over whether her bonus was justified.

The 56-year-old, who took over the troubled contractor in September, was paid a bonus of £270,089 for the year – the maximum available. Her basic salary is £650,000.

Interserve refinanced its debt earlier this year after narrowly avoiding breaching loan conditions.

The firm, which provides security, probation, healthcare and construction services, and cleans the London Underground, has been hit by increased staff costs, lower Government spending and economic uncertainty.

Interserve declined to comment last night.
