RAHEEM STERLING
Her nickname: Jose Mourinho
SHE left her children in Jamaica to forge a better life for them in the UK, and raheem Sterling’s mum Nadine Clarke (right) achieved it.
raheem’s father was murdered when he was two and his mother took the difficult decision to leave him and his sister with their grandmother.
raheem followed aged five years old, but initially struggled and had to be removed from his primary school due to behavioural problems.
Nadine instilled discipline, taking her son and his older sister to her hotel cleaning job, where they both chipped in changing sheets and cleaning toilets — with a treat from the vending machine (usually a Bounty bar). raheem says his mum, 44, was the ‘warrior’ who encouraged him to sign for QPR, not arsenal, because she felt he could work his way up.
‘I actually call her Jose Mourinho because she thinks she’s the Chosen One,’ jokes raheem.
Nadine is now the director of a nursing home.
