Silva tells new-look side to hit the ground running

- By DOMINIC KING

MARCO SILVA has told Everton they must have a strong start to the season after their late flurry of transfer dealings. Kurt Zouma’s loan move from Chelsea was confirmed last night, Silva’s fourth deadline-day signing and his sixth of a busy summer. And although the new Everton boss is unable to call on his last-minute signings at Wolves tonight, he accepts that judgment of his team will be immediate. Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes, recruits from Barcelona, are not yet ready and neither is Brazilian winger Bernard, who arrived on a free transfer. While Everton struggled in pre-season — they lost to Valencia, Blackburn, Rennes and Porto and conceded 12 goals — the challenge is now for them to hit the ground running at Molineux. ‘Because we signed four players on Thursday does not mean I will have an excuse because I need three or four months. ‘Football is always the next day, the next match as well.’
