No way to treat a widow

-

I HAVE great sympathy with the bereaved lady left to starve after a blundering official stopped her pension (Mail).

My husband died in February and it took 12 weeks before my state pension was updated. Fortunately, I received his civil service pension at full rate quickly as he had worked at the local DSS, but these local pension offices no longer exist — they have become Job Centres.

I complained it was unfair to expect a widow to cope without any other income or savings. I received an apology after they had refused to help at the Job Centre when I took in the death and marriage certificates.

Not all of us are able to deal with bereavement online. There is so much to cope with at such a time.
