IG Group’s boss has seen his pay double to nearly £3m after overseeing record sales and profits.

Peter Hetherington, chief executive at Europe’s largest online trading site since December 2015, was paid a salary of £575,000, £93,000 in benefits and stock awards worth £2.3m.

The previous year he was paid £1.45m, which included £779,000 in stock awards. IG, which has more than 195,000 clients, reported sales of £590.2m and profit of £280.8m in the year to May 31.
