24 CARROT GOLD!

Ring that was lost for 12 years is unearthed – on a vegetable

A RING that was lost in the family’s vegetable patch has been found 12 years later – on a carrot.

Lin Keitch couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw her husband Dave dig up some vegetables for their lunch and spotted her precious piece of jewellery.

She said: ‘The carrot had grown into the ring. It must be a chance in a million.’

Mrs Keitch, 69, was given the gold ring with a heart-shaped amethyst by Mr Keitch for her 40th birthday.

She had passed it on to her daughter Sarah, now 37, who lost it in the garden in 2006.

She said: ‘Dave dug up the carrots without noticing anything. I picked them up and put them in a bowl of water and washed them – and then saw the ring in front of me.

‘It was great to get it back after all those years.’

Mr Keitch admitted he had looked for the ring every time he went into the garden in Monkton Heathfield, Somerset, but to no avail until his lucky dig.

Mrs Keitch added that she is now going to keep a close eye on it, saying: ‘I’m deciding whether to give it back to [my daughter] or not. I may just clean it up and keep it in a box.’
