Moeen eyes England recall after Yorkshire demolition

- By DAVID KENT

MOEEN ALI staked his claim for an England recall when he became the first player since Middlesex’s Bill Edrich in 1946 to score a double hundred and take six wickets in a County Championship game as WORCESTERSHIRE crushed YORKSHIRE. He is only the eighth player to achieve the feat, finishing with match figures of eight for 89. Yorkshire, resuming on day four at Scarborough on 140 for six, were bowled out for 170 with Moeen finishing with six for 49 in an innings-and-186-run win. Moeen took two wickets in the first innings before hitting 219 with the bat as the visitors posted 572 for seven declared in reply to 216. Yorkshire’s David Willey said: ‘Moeen Ali played exceptionally well with bat and ball.’ Another England candidate, spinner Jack Leach, returned a career-best eight for 85 as

SOMERSET maintained their challenge for a maiden title with a 45-run win over ESSEX at Taunton. Chasing 336 to win, Essex looked well placed at 256 for four, but captain Ryan ten Doeschate fell to Leach for 50 and the match swung Somerset’s way. Leach said: ‘I have had some low times this season with two injuries and they make days like today all the sweeter.’
