Corbyn ally hints at new poll

-

JEREMY Corbyn’s most senior ally has said the option of a second Brexit referendum should not be ‘off the table’.

Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell said Parliament had a right to decide the next step when Theresa May comes forward with her Brussels deal, if one is reached.

His remarks follow Labour Brexit spokesman Sir Keir Starmer’s suggestion that a second vote could still be considered.

Yesterday Mr McDonnell told Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘It’s not Labour Party policy to have another referendum.

‘We respect the past referendum but we recognise that when the Government comes forward with its proposals, if it does I’m worried we might be in a no-deal situation, but when the Government comes forward with its proposals, Parliament will decide the next step.

‘ So we’re not saying any options (are) off the table when that debate happens.’
