It’s a jump — not a tackle — and Capoue’s a lucky boy
IF referee Anthony Taylor had use of VAR then I have no doubt he would have sent off Etienne Capoue for his shocking challenge on Wilfried Zaha. It is a jump, not a tackle, and he came down on Zaha’s achilles with his studs — it should have been a red card because he risked causing injury to his opponent. In real time, Taylor probably saw this as a stepping action so I understand why he only issued a yellow card. But with the benefit of watching a replay, I am sure he would have changed his mind and shown a red. Capoue will, of course, escape retrospective action because Taylor saw the challenge and dealt with it.
