Northerners ‘can inspire us on Brexit’
NORTHERNERS who do not fear Brexit should be an inspiration to the rest of the country to be optimistic about life outside the EU, a minister has said.
Jake Berry, minister for the Northern Powerhouse, went on 739-mile road trip across the region to talk to hundreds of workers in dockyards and building sites to find out their thoughts on the UK’s looming departure.
He said many people in the North voted for Brexit because they felt disconnected from Westminster politicians and are now ‘impatient for it to come’.
‘Northerners are brave about Brexit,’ he wrote in The Daily Telegraph. ‘We can all learn from their optimism and spirit of resilience.’
Mr Berry voted Remain in the 2016 referendum, but earlier this year he said he believed he had made a mistake and would now vote Brexit.
