in LATe 1964, i was serving on hms salisbury in mombasa, Kenya. One night, we were recalled from shore leave to sail immediately. we were all in various states of inebriation, but nonetheless did our duty. we were at sea all night, with no lights showing. On returning to mombasa the next morning, the captain announced on the Tannoy that we had escorted the commando ship hms Albion to Zanzibar, where there was an uprising and the sultan had been imprisoned. A group of royal marines from the Albion had gone ashore, rescued the sultan and taken him to their ship. i still dine out on the fact i was one of the team that rescued the sultan of Zanzibar. i believe he lives in Portsmouth.
