‘Happy’ Klopp says he wants his No 1 to keep taking risks

- LAURIE WHITWELL

JURGEN KLOPP insisted he was happy Alisson blundered against Leicester because Liverpool ‘don’t have to wait for it now’. The goalkeeper tried to perform a Cruyff turn to escape Kelechi Iheanacho’s attentions but lost possession, enabling Rachid Ghezzal to score and bring Leicester back into the match. But Klopp said he was pleased Alisson had learned a lesson without it costing Liverpool any points and welcomed the possibility that opponents might now target the Brazilian when he is on the ball. ‘That’s good, if they go for the goalkeeper then someone else has the space, so use it,’ Klopp said. ‘If they go early on the goalkeeper then don’t play the pass there. If he plays the pass in the wrong moment then it’s our fault. ‘I’m pleased with his reaction. It’s a big mistake and everyone was waiting for it after last week (when Alisson coolly chipped over Brighton’s Anthony Knockaert). ‘To be 100 per cent honest I’m really happy it happened because we don’t have to wait for it now. He’s confident and he can do it. It’s like when our centre halves play passes.’ Klopp said that £40million signing Fabinho should be ready for his Liverpool debut after the international break. The midfielder has been curiously absent so far. ‘The team is good, he needs time to adapt,’ added the manager. ‘He already makes big steps in the last few weeks. He could even play. ‘Hopefully he will have games for Brazil. Then it’s games, games, games the whole of September. We need all of them.’
