THE DOG OF WAR WHO SAVED ME FROM DEATH
HOW sad to read about all the pets who were killed in the first few weeks of World War II because of fears of a food shortage (Mail). If it wasn’t for my dog, Jim, I would not be here today. During the war, aged six, I was standing on the banks of the River Severn when the tidal Severn Bore, racing down from Wales, took the bank I was standing on from under my feet. I was swept into the swollen river, clinging onto some tufts of grass. Jim barked furiously until a lady passing by came to my rescue and pulled me out of the river, saving me from certain death.
