Holiday hell

-

ON THE first day of our French holiday, while changing stations in Paris, my husband was pickpocketed. On arriving at Avignon, our booked hire car was ‘ not available’.

After 1 ½ hours of arguing in 30c heat, we had to get a taxi to our destination at a cost of € 50. To soak up the local atmosphere, we had a day trip to a local market, where my husband tripped over an uneven paving slab. He ended up in A&E for six hours, with stitches in his head, bruises and two broken ribs. Our villa was lovely, but we were plagued by mosquitos day and night. On our way home, we missed our connection with Eurostar. After all that, I could really do with a holiday!

SANDRA JACOB, Little Bookham, Surrey. FLYING back from a holiday on Majorca, laden with souvenirs, we were charged extra at check-in because one of our cases was 3kg over the baggage allowance. To put this in context, I weigh 10st 5lb, my wife is 9 st 10lb and my eightyearold son is 4 st. Yet the family of four behind us were about 20st each.

Would it not make more sense for airline companies to weigh passengers and their luggage, charging for the combined weight?

Some people will argue that obesity is a disease. But aren’t families like mine, who have a good diet and exercise, being victimised?
