More of the fabric swept the floor than covered her body

- FEMAIL FASHION VERDICT DINAH VAN TULLEKEN

IT was a frocky horror show for the beautiful Kate Beckinsale at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards.

With a body like that, we can’t blame the Hollywood A-lister – and former Oxford scholar – for wanting to show it off.

And she certainly turned heads, but not necessarily for the right reasons. The blood-coloured floral print dress left the 45-yearold looking more like she had been slashed with scissors than immaculately styled.

If cut-away is what she asked for then it’s certainly what she got. Every imaginable technology for showing flesh, short of simple nudity, had been employed by the designer Julien Macdonald.

Spaghetti straps, a low neck swooping almost down to the navel, high leg slashes and bare loins. More fabric swept the floor than covered her body. Good for attracting attention, sure – but hardly classy or the height of fashion.
