Focus viewer alerted him to his cancer scare. At the end of last season, the editor of the programme received an email from the anonymous viewer urging Lawrenson to get a dark patch of skin on his face checked out urgently. Lawrenson, 61, announced on Twitter on Thursday that he was given the all-clear, having had two operations to remove the ‘cancerous blemish’. ‘That email was the kick up the backside I needed,’ he told the BBC. ‘I went to get it looked at immediately and it was cancerous so I had it whipped out straight away. ‘I would urge anyone with any similar doubts about a mark on their skin not to wait and to do the same.’
