Why we like going with a gut decision

THERE is a reason why, when it comes to life’s big decisions, many people rely on gut instinct – we feel more certain if we do.

It may seem risky to prioritise heart over head but a study has found that choices made less rationally are viewed as reflecting our ‘true selves’ and create confidence.

US research, published by the American Psychological Association, asked people to pick a restaurant using either logic or their gut feeling and found they were more likely to tell friends about the place they chose on instinct. Those asked to choose a flat to live in stood by their decision with more certainty after going with their heart.
