Mohawk boy, 6, banned from class in case hair ‘pokes pupils in the eye’

-

A BOY of six was told he could not keep his mohawk haircut by his school over fears it could poke pupils in the eye, his mother claims.

Charlie Chafer sported the 4cm (1.6in) high punk hairstyle on his first day back at Drayton Park Primary School in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, on Wednesday last week.

But his mother Kirstie-Lea Day, 26, said the school phoned her on the Friday after the mohawk was spotted by the headteacher. The school apparently told her it was not acceptable and Charlie would not be allowed in class until he changed it.

The single mother of three added: ‘I was even told he needed to shave his head for safety reasons, as it could poke someone in the eye.’

In the end, the school allowed him to flatten it down with water. But Miss Day said she was now considering moving him to a different school.

A school spokesman said: ‘We had a conversation with Charlie and his mum on Friday morning and we agreed a compromise.’
