Buzz off or I’ll send in the swat team!

-

The day had been hot and sultry, Oppressive was the heat, But as I lay at end of the day Between cool cotton sheets I closed my eyes and welcomed sleep. On my face a gentle breeze Came from my window open wide. My world was all at peace Until I heard that dreaded sound, The awful high-pitched whine From a mosquito quite nearby. She was no friend of mine! She buzzed my ear and touched my cheek, I felt her on my nose. She flew around me constantly And spoilt my quiet repose. She sought her blood meal eagerly To feed her inert eggs. ‘Just go away. Leave me alone!’ My hot and tired brain begged. I left my bed, turned on the lamp Hell bent on her demise. I couldn’t see her anywhere. She’d hidden from my eyes. I waited for what seemed an age. Of her there was no trace. I stumbled, dozy, back to bed And covered up my face. I’d stay awake, odd catnaps take. A vigil I would keep, But slumber overtook my thoughts. I drifted off to sleep. The morning sun awakened me. I was quite bright at first Until I saw my spotty arm. Mozzy had done her worst! The irritation that I felt! A solution then arose: On future nights I vowed to keep My windows tightly closed. Mrs Pam Cammell, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight.
