Apple powers up its battery prices

-

AFTER a cost cut for batteries following a scandal last year, Apple is putting up prices for iPhone ones by up to £40.

It dropped the price of new batteries after it admitted slowing down old handsets with ageing power cells.

Apple said it was to avoid unexpected shutdowns caused when the processor tries to draw large amounts of power.

Fury from consumers prompted Apple to cut battery prices from £79 to £25.

But from January 1, 2019, battery replacements on older models from the iPhone SE to the iPhone 8 Plus will cost £45. The iPhone X’s battery price will increase to £65, a jump of £40.

However, out of warranty screen repair will now drop to £166.40 on Plus models of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8, compared to £176.44 last year.

Apple has just revealed a trio of new iPhones, including its most expensive ever – the £1099 iPhone XS Max.
