Philip’s the barbecue king of The Crown
IN an intimate family moment caught on camera, Prince Philip cooks on a barbecue by the river with his daughter Princess Anne in glorious evening sunlight.
And as the exclusive picture on the left shows, the scene will be recreated for series three of The Crown – but with a few differences.
In the original photo, taken by Lord Lichfield during the Royal Family’s summer holiday at Balmoral in 1972, the duke is in a pale striped shirt, while his daughter, then aged 22, wears a blue shirt and tartan skirt.
In the Netflix series Tobias Menzies, who plays Philip, wears a dark cardigan while Call The Midwife actress Erin Doherty, as Anne, is in a spotted red and white blouse. A red-coated footman hovers in the background.
The scene, to be broadcast next year, captures the royals in an unguarded moment as they cook after a day of fishing.
For the forthcoming series of the hit drama Menzies, 44, takes over from Matt Smith as an older Philip while Olivia Colman, also 44, succeeds Claire Foy as the Queen.
